UDMF blames UML for Saptari incident
KATHMANDU — The United Democratic Madhesi Front has blamed the main opposition CPN-UML for casualties in Saptari district on Monday when the UDMF cadres clashed with security personnel.
The emergency meeting of the UDMF held at the office of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal’s, Tinkune, after the incident, has also condemened the incident, claiming that it took the lives of four persons — Digambar Yadav, Sanjan Mehata, Pitambar Lal Mandal and Anand Saha.
Issuing a statemnt after the meeting the UDMF dubbed the casualties as murder and said the State violated human rights and international laws in Saptari.
They reportedly decided to withdraw support to the Maoist-Nepali Congress coalition government in protest. The morcha has also decided to call a two-day shutdown in Tarai-Madhesh region starting today.
The Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed three deaths in Monday late evening. Casualties were reported as police opened fired at violent protesters outside the venue of CPN-UML’s program.
The UDMF cadres reportedly hurled petrol bombs at security personnel and obstructed vehicular movement throught the day in their bid to disrupt the CPN-UML’s Mechi-Mahakali campaign. They also planted explosives near the UML’s program venue.
