CIB arrests murder convict from Saudia Arabia

Feb 12, 2017- A Nepali murder convict has been repatriated from Saudi Arabia, eighteen years after the crime took place.
The convict Narayan Adhikari, who has been using pseudo name as Narayan Bahadur and Jiwan Bahadur, was on the run after the Kaski District Court convicted him in the murder of Shiva Raj Thapa Suyal, a resident of Kaski district’s Siddha VDC-7, on October 1, 1998.
Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal police coordinated with Interpol to bring back Adhikari from Saudi Arabia.
According to police, the murder took place after Adhikari's wife had complained that Thapa groped her while she was collecting fodder.
Adhikari, a former Nepal Army personnel based in Singhanath battalion, Jhapa, on the morning of November 1 met with Thapa and stabbed him to death following a bitter altercation.
Adhikari, who was later kept in detention by Nepal Army, fled the custody on March 10, 2000. He then changed his name to Jiwan Bahadur Adhikari and acquired another citizenship from District Administration Office, Kaski and applied for passport from the fake name. He then moved to Saudi Arabia for foreign employment on May 25, 2013.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sher Bahadur Basnet of CIB said a red corner notice was issued against Adhikari on June 6 last year and was arrested by Saudi Police.
Adhikari was presented before Kathmandu District Court on Sunday and has been sent to Central Jail, Sundhara.
