Local elections to be held within May 14 by any means: PM 'Prachanda'
- Panchthar, Feb 15: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has said the local level elections would be held by any means within May 14 this year as the three major parties have already made an informal agreement on this.The Prime Minister said this while inaugurating the Hewakhola 'A' Hydroelectricity Project here today. The project is on the Hewakhola River that flows through the border between Yagnam and Nagin of Panchthar district.
"I have held discussions on this matter with the Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and the CPN (UML) chairman KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday evening and the morning today alone. We will organize the local level elections within Baisakh by sorting out the contentious issues and making agreement soon," the Prime Minister said.
He said the time has already come for the country to move ahead on the path of prosperity as the constitution is already in hand.
Stating that the energy sector could play an important role to propel the country ahead towards economic prosperity, he urged all the stakeholders to be engaged in this sector.
"The government has now moved ahead with the objective of making the country prosperous by producing electricity from rivers by identifying places where reservoirs could be constructed, and not only confined to small hydropower projects,' he added.
Energy Minister Janardan Sharma said the country should be taken ahead towards prosperity through new methods and techniques by changing the working style.
He underlined the need of developing the Tamor Project even through loan investment.
Former speaker Subas Nembang, Minister of State for Local Development Shree Prasad Jabegu and president of the Industry and Commerce and Consumer Interest Protection Committee Bhisma Raj Angdambe also expressed their views on the need of developing the energy sector for attaining economic prosperity
